Innovative Manufacturing with PDM and PLM

How can Kiwi Manufacturers innovate faster?
Struggling with an explosion of digital product design data that costs time to find or recreate? Trying to standardize on common engineering workflows like drawing release or change order processes? Can't perform multi-CAD design reviews easily across multiple sites with suppliers or customers in the early stage of new product development?

Learn how Product Data Management (PDM) solutions like UGS Teamcenter Express, as part of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) business strategy, can speed innovation in product engineering and manufacturing.

To receive an invitation for the next Matrix PDM Teamcenter Webinar contact Stu Hodder on 09-623-1223.

Engineering Data Management - Simple, Complete, Affordable

The management of engineering content and technical documentation throughout the enterprise will help your organisation to streamline operations and gain efficiency. When engineers, maintenance workers, and contractors all have full access to the same information, it will help to organise, prioritise, and aid the decision-making process.

For further information on how Matrix can help your organisation to solve its engineering and technical document management, contact Earl Duthie at Matrix on (09) 623 1223 or for further information of the Engineering Document Management solutions from Cyco Software visit http://www.cyco.com

CFD Aero-acoustic Analysis of a Baffle Silencer

During a recent process upgrade of a silencer duct process engineers reported significant vibrations in the duct walls. It was postulated that the source of the vibration may have been from acoustic baffles within the ducting. Matrix was commissioned to confirm the source of vibration and aid in redesign of the baffles. A transient CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation of the duct and baffles was performed with STAR-CCM+ (www.cd-adapco.com) (momentum couple finite volume CFD code) and vortex shedding off the trailing edge of the second row of acoustic baffles monitored.

This resulting simulation predicted that the pressure disturbance from the vortex shedding propagated upstream resulting in flip-flop effect as the flow oscillated between two available paths between the sets of baffles. This CFD predicted transverse pressure frequencies tightly agreed with measurements of the dominant panel vibration modes to within a few percent.

Once the CFD model had been verified against the measured noise frequency, the model was then extended to look at options such as modifying the trailing edge geometry to prevent the vortex shedding. An added benefit was that Matrix was able to eliminate a more costly modification with the final design resulting in measurable efficiency improvements in the ducting and baffles.

City West Water Streamlines its Operations.

City West Water provides drinking water, wastewater, trade waste and recycled water services to approximately 276,000 residential and 31,300 non-residential (industrial and commercial) customers in Melbourne's Central Business District and western suburbs.

City West has implemented MUNSYS a new spatial technology to streamline its operations, an award winning Spatial Data Capture and Management application. From open spatial Munsys is now used by 30% of urban water authorities in Victoria. MUNSYS delivers efficiency and productivity improvements through Engineering Best Practices, capturing and managing Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Assets.

Users throughout City West Water will have access to accurate maps through a browser based solution (Enlighten) that is the same for both office staff and crews out in the field. The Enlighten component of the Open Spatial solution provides a single user-interface into an organisation's corporate applications.

Engineers are now capable of isolating the valves to close when a pipe leak occurs in the field. Enlighten also advises crews immediately which properties will be affected by the planned outage of water services, which significantly reduces the turnaround time required by traditional methods.

Matrix is the distributor and integrator for Open Spatial MUNSYS and Enlighten solutions in New Zealand. For furthur information, contact Maurice Slingerland on 09 623 1223 or have a look at this Munsys Brochure.
